Exchange Program

Introduction

The exchange program at Giao Long Monastery offers students from around the world the opportunity to study Tibetan Buddhist monastic education in a multicultural context. Participants engage in a semester or year-long program on-campus, combining scholarly study, monastic life, and cross-cultural exchange.

Exchange Program
Selected international participants live on the Giao Long campus alongside resident monastics for the duration of their exchange. The curriculum includes language preparation (Tibetan and/or Sanskrit basics), intensive courses in Buddhist philosophy, monastic discipline, logic, and ritual practice. Cultural seminars complement the academic study, helping learners understand the monastic lifestyle, Tibetan traditions, and the broader context of Buddhist practice.
During the program, exchange students attend classes, join debate sessions, participate in communal rituals, and may undertake a small research or translation project under faculty supervision. They experience both academic rigor and the lived reality of monastic life.

This model is ideal for graduate students, scholars of Buddhism, lay practitioners interested in immersive experience, and international learners seeking a blend of study and culture. Giao Long facilitates housing, mentorship, language support and cultural orientation to help international students integrate.

The Exchange Programme offers international students a lived experience of monastic study and Tibetan Buddhist culture. Through immersion in language, philosophy, ritual, and community life, participants gain a direct encounter with the contemplative environment that shapes the tradition.
