Path to Self Reliance
This is GLM’s free vocational-training initiative aiming to empower individuals from vulnerable backgrounds with practical skills, meaningful service mindset, and pathways to employment or community contribution. This program nurtures both competence and compassion.
Trainees receive development in trade, digital, and service roles, paired with mentorship in Buddhist ethics and community service. Costs are fully covered by social, charitable sponsors and partner organizations ensuring no fee to participants.
Program Activities
The Path to Self Reliance curriculum is structured around six major activity modules:
- Technical Trade Skills (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical basics)
- Digital & Service Skills (e.g., computer literacy, customer service, logistics)
- Mind-Body & Well-Being Training (e.g., mindfulness in work, ergonomics, wellness breaks)
- Ethics & Compassion in Service (e.g., Buddhist service mindset, community engagement, team communication)
- Work-Readiness & Job Placement Support (e.g., resume building, interview skills, internship arrangements)
- Community Contribution Projects (e.g., trainees serve GLM senior-care facilities, local social programs, volunteering)
Trainees engage in practical workshops, peer learning, and hands-on projects. GLM provides a safe learning environment, industry tools, mentors, and community service opportunities. Each module reinforces both skill acquisition and character development, emphasizes holistic care, training to real job pipelines. The outcome: graduates are ready to step into employment, social enterprise roles, or continue as community volunteers, carrying both competence and compassion.
