Scholarship & Support

At Giao Long Monastery & Institute, all academic programs are offered free of charge, following the Tibetan Buddhist tradition where Dharma is never withheld for financial reasons. Because of this, the purpose of Scholarship at GLM is not to reduce tuition—it is to remove the subtle obstacles that prevent students from fully immersing in study and practice.

GLM Scholarships function as supportive conditions: time, space, guidance, resources, and community care offered to sincere students so they can walk the path without distraction or hardship.

Scholarship as Support for Practice and Learning

Scholarships at GLM are designed to provide students with what they genuinely need to thrive:

  • Practice Support Scholarship
    Allows students to dedicate more time to meditation, study, and retreat by reducing external obligations.

  • Full-Residency Scholarship
    Offers free housing, meals, and daily-life support for students committing to intensive programs or multi-year study.

  • Retreat Scholarship
    Covers all needs for short-term or long-term retreats: practice rooms, texts, guidance, and necessary supplies.

  • Merit & Service Fellowship
    Awarded to students who contribute to the community through translation, teaching assistance, library work, or service.

  • Research & Preservation Fellowship
    Supports students involved in Tibetan language study, textual preservation, digital archiving, or cultural research.

  • International Student Support Grant
    Helps non-local or international students adjust to life at GLM by providing orientation, mentorship, and transitional resources.

These forms of scholarship honor the Tibetan Buddhist understanding that true learning flourishes when unnecessary burdens are lifted.

Simple Application Rooted in Intention

Students applying for scholarships are asked only for:

  • A short statement of intention

  • Explanation of needs or life circumstances

  • The type of support they feel would help them practice most effectively

There are no financial proofs.

The Scholarship Committee reviews each request with the aim of understanding—not evaluating. Decisions are based on:

  • The student’s motivation and commitment

  • Their ability to benefit from the support offered
